Multidisciplinary forces nabs two illegal miners through Operation Vala Umgodi in possession of stolen precious minerals

POLOKWANE – Multidisciplinary Forces comprising the SAPS Tactical Response Team, National Intervention Unit and the Public Order Police conducted Disruptive Operation Vala Umgodi on Wednesday, 29 May 2024 in the evening with the intention to conduct disruptive operations on illegal mining and illegal transportation of precious minerals.

The team in the early hours of Thursday 30 May 2024 spotted a white Hino tipper truck driving along R37 road carrying chrome. The team arrested the driver and his crew,   for unlawful possession and transportation of precious minerals without proper documentations. 

In addition, about twenty foreign nationals were arrested in separate locations within the five districts, including Beitbridge Port of Entry for contravention of immigration act.

The suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrate’s Courts in due course.
