Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – Multi-disciplinary high-density crime prevention actions continues through the Youth Month celebrations in Mangaung Metro. The Co-Chairperson of Mangaung Metro Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (also known as District JOINTS) Major-General Arthur Peter Adams instructed operational commanders in stations identified to carry out operational concepts in each and every street where drug peddlers proliferate drug trafficking. The objective of actions carried out is to ensure that Illicit drugs such as Chrystal Meth does not continue to be used and affect the mental health and well-being of Youth in Mangaung Metro. The operation started in Heidedal Police Station where 28-year-old male was arrested for dealing in drugs. The suspect was found in possession of fifty-three (53) full Mandrax tablets in Tom Swarts Street – Opkoms. Further search led to the arrest of 23-year-old male found in possession of thirteen (13) full Mandrax tablets also in Tom Swarts. The Stop-and-Search activity led to the arrest of 26-year-old suspect also found in possession of Mandrax tablets. The search continued in other areas of Heidedal and 33-year-old male was arrested for dealing in dagga; fifteen (15) small bankies, twenty-five (25) medium zip lock plastics and one litre bag containing the dried leaves of dagga were seized with cash believed to be proceeds of drugs sale. Fifteen (15) full and nine (9) halves of Mandrax tablets were seized in Joe Solomon Street and 45-year-old male arrested. Chrystal Meth weighing at 2112 grams was seized and 26-year-old female arrested in Karel Botman Street. In Murrison Street, the 28-year-old male was arrested and 30-year-old suspect arrested in Dr Belcher Road; both found in possession of Mandrax tablets. Two (2) undocumented persons were also arrested. Compliance inspection was conducted and thirteen (13) persons were issued with fines for transgressions against Free State Gambling and Liquor Act regulations. Three (3) other persons were issued with fines for transgressions against Consumer Protection Act and Possession of Illicit cigarettes. Further actions were carried out in Bloemspruit Police Station precinct. Two (2) suspects aged 22 and 30 were arrested for possession of Mandrax tablets. Eight (8) persons were arrested for being in the Republic of South Africa without proper documents.
The operation will continue until Monday, which is a public holiday. All suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday 18 June 2024.
