MTHATHA – The OR Tambo District Commissioner has welcomed the 15-year sentence imposed on a 26-year-old, who was convicted of raping his then four-year old biological daughter in 2022. The Regional Court in Mthatha convicted and sentenced him this week. During this week, the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mhlabukhutshiwe attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Mthatha, through his thorough investigation ensured a prison sentence for a horrible father, who raped his then four-year-old biological daughter two years ago. In 2022, the mother of the victim noticed that there was something wrong with her child’s private part and took her to the clinic for a medical examination. After the victim was examined a case of rape was opened. The evidence from various forensic experts and the sterling work by the investigating officer managed to link the accused to the incident. District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana has commended the team starting from the investigating officer to a team of forensic experts, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrator is convicted. The SAPS will continue with its endeavours to fight Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in all its facets”, concluded Maj Gen Modishana. Ends
