MOVE SA Names Patrick Moraka as Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate
MOVE SA has formally announced Patrick Moraka as its mayoral candidate for the City of Ekurhuleni ahead of South Africa’s 2026 Local Government Elections.
The elections are scheduled to take place on 4 November 2026, with political parties intensifying their campaigns for control of the country’s major municipalities. The election date was officially gazetted in August. South African Government
In a statement issued on Friday, MOVE SA said Moraka would lead its campaign to secure representation and political influence in one of Gauteng’s most important metropolitan municipalities.
The party described Moraka as an experienced leader with business knowledge, established community networks and an understanding of the challenges facing residents and businesses across Ekurhuleni.
“Ekurhuleni does not need another election campaign built on promises that disappear after voting day,” the party said.
“It needs leadership that understands that public office is a responsibility to the people and that performance must be measurable.”
MOVE SA said its campaign would focus on reliable service delivery, accountable governance, economic development, job creation, infrastructure maintenance, public safety and improved municipal efficiency.
The party believes there remains a significant gap between Ekurhuleni’s economic potential and the daily experiences of many residents.
Ekurhuleni is one of South Africa’s major industrial and economic centres, accommodating significant manufacturing, logistics and aviation infrastructure. However, residents in several communities continue to raise concerns about electricity interruptions, water supply, deteriorating roads, waste collection and municipal administration.
Moraka is expected to campaign on a platform of people-centred government and measurable performance.
MOVE SA said it would continue consulting residents, civil society organisations, businesses and other stakeholders to identify local priorities and develop practical proposals for the municipality.
The announcement adds Moraka to a growing field of candidates seeking to lead the politically contested Ekurhuleni metro after the November elections.
MOVE SA officially launched its campaign earlier this month and has indicated that it intends to contest Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Emfuleni.
