The South African Police Service in the Free State welcomes the successful conviction secured by the Parkroad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in a sensitive case involving the sexual abuse of a minor.
Free State Policespokesperson Capt Loraine Earle said the case involved disturbing incidents of rape and sexual assault that occurred between January 2020 and December 2023 in the Bayswater area of Bloemfontein. The biological mother was convicted of sexual offences where the boy was sexually used by her. This happened on several occasions since the boy was 12.
The victim disclosed the abuse during a consultation with a professional service provider in February 2024, prompting immediate investigation by Constable Jessica du Preez from Parkroad FCS Unit. The suspect (52) was arrested and charged.
Following diligent investigative work by Constable du Preez and the effective prosecution led by the National Prosecuting Authority, the accused was found guilty of sexual assault. On sentencing, the court ordered the accused to serve sixty (60) months of correctional supervision in terms of Section 276(1)(h) of the Criminal Procedure Act. Furthermore, the accused’s details will be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders. The accused has also been declared unsuitable to work with children
