FREE STATE – Dedicated members of Welkom Anti-Gang Unit travel hundreds of kilometers to stop gun wilding men on their tracks. On Tuesday, 02 April 2024 at about 21:45, members of Welkom Anti-Gang Unit were on rest days when they received information on the whereabouts of the suspect to an attempted murder victim from Lusaka in Phuthaditjhaba. Members quickly followed the intelligence led information and drove to Phuthaditjhaba from Welkom. Upon arrival at about 03:40 they went to an identified house in Rockville and found 67-year-old African male with an unlicensed firearm and arrested him. While at the scene, they received another intelligence led information about a suspect wanted for an attempted murder case of Makwane who was on his way on foot to the local petrol station. Members disguised themselves and walked to the petrol station and waited for the suspect.
At about 07:30, the 40-year-old African male matching the description arrived at the garage and was identified, approached and arrested. Both suspects were detained for possession of an illegal firearm and attempted murder.
