Mosimane warns Bafana after Guinea win: ‘They will punish us’
Pitso Mosimane was pleased with Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 victory over Guinea, but the coach had one major concern after Saturday night’s AFCON qualifier.
Bafana created several chances but failed to make them count. Mosimane believes that could become a serious problem against stronger opposition.
“Guinea did not come here to sit back, hey? They are a good team. They have that boy from Girona (Serhou Guirassy) who was bossing the midfield. He is unbelievable,” Mosimane said after the match.
The coach was pleased with how Bafana approached the game, particularly in the first half.
“But we played it well, especially in the first half. We pressed them and we stole a few balls,” he said.
However, Mosimane then highlighted what he described as an old South African problem — failing to finish chances.
“But then you know the old South African problem… the ‘Oh’s’, the ‘Eish’ and ‘Ah’s’. We do not finish the chances,” he said.
Mosimane warned that Bafana could pay a heavy price for their wastefulness against higher-quality opposition.
“And then we know what is going to happen when we play against the more quality teams. They will punish us,” he added.
Bafana next play Eritrea in Cairo in Egypt on Wednesday. Eritrea played a 1-1 draw against Kenya in their opening game.
This means Mosimane’s team are top of Group D with three points after one game.
