Mosimane gives Aubaas injury update, says he was in tears
Pitso Mosimane has revealed the emotional toll another injury has taken on Bathusi Aubaas, with the midfielder reportedly breaking down in tears in the dressing room.
The 31-year-old had been preparing to return to action after missing the World Cup through injury, only to suffer another setback.
“Aubaas is an unfortunate player. I mean, Aubaas missed the World Cup because of an injury,” said Mosimane.
“Now, he was ready to come back to play, and again he broke down. Yeah, shame, man; he was crying in the dressing room,” Mosimane said.
The Bafana coach assured Aubaas that the national team would continue to support him and give him confidence, insisting that he will return soon.
Aubaas’ injury has added to Bafana’s growing midfield crisis ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Egypt.
Teboho Mokoena is also injured, while Thalente Mbatha missed out on a callup because of injury.
The coach revealed that Themba Zwane had to be moved into midfield, while Brooklyn Poggenpoel was handed an opportunity and impressed.
Despite the setbacks, Mosimane praised his attacking options, singling out Oswin Appollis for his three assists, Luther Singh for his return and contribution, and Relebohile Mofokeng for once again showing his class.
