More than R200 000 to be forfeited into State’s CARA

NORTHERN CAPE – The Upington Magistrates’ Court granted the Hawks and Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) a final order against Masoud Mohammed (48) on Tuesday, 20 March 2024.

In May 2023, information was received regarding a taxi that was traveling towards Springbok and that one of the passengers was carrying a black and red bag with cash. The taxi was intercepted by the police. They found a bag that was described and requested the owner to open it and an amount of R227 450-00 was recovered.

The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation working in conjunction with National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit where a Forfeiture order of R227 450-00 was granted by the court. The money will be paid into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA).
