Media Statement POLOKWANE – In a concerted effort to combat illegal mining activities through the multidisciplinary operation Vala Umgodi, the task team in Sekhukhune arrested a 42-year-old male suspect after he was found loading sand illegally onto a truck at Rameleteng in the Dennilton policing area. This arrest took place during an operation conducted between Thursday, 02 January and Friday, 03 January 2025. Four shovels and one pick were confiscated during the operation. Additionally, the task team operating in the Mopani District apprehended five undocumented foreign male nationals, aged between 24 and 27, during operations at illegal mining sites in the Ritavi policing precinct. The South African Police Service will continue to take decisive action against criminals involved in illegal mining activities, aiming to eradicate such crimes and contribute to the creation of a crime-free society.
The suspects will appear soon in local Magistrate Courts respectively.
