POLOKWANE – The members of Mopani District Tracking Team have on Tuesday 18 March 2025 nabbed a 45-year-old male suspect for theft by false pretence and assault with intent to inflict a grievous bodily harm (GBH) committed at Wally Block 13 village under Letsitele policing area. It is alleged that a male victim residing at Mavele village was selling chickens at his farm during the month of November 2024 when the suspect approached him and ordered forty (40) chickens to the value of four thousand rands (R4000). The victim allegedly delivered the chickens at the suspect’s homestead in Wally Block 13 village and he was promised to be paid the money within five days. The 45-year-old failed to pay for the chickens as agreed and the victim attempted to contact him through a cellphone but he did not respond to his calls. The male victim continued to contact the suspect on a daily basis without success until he decided to go to his residence at Wally Block 13 village on Thursday 12 December 2024. Upon arrival, he demanded money for the 40 chickens and the suspect promised to pay the money but the duo started to quarrel. It is reported that suddenly, the 45-year-old suspect assaulted the victim who sustained injuries and he went to the local police and a case of theft by false pretence and assault with intent to inflict a grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened. Mopani District Tracking Team was tasked to assist in tracking and tracing the suspect following the incident. On Tuesday 18 March 2025 at about 10:00, police received information about the whereabouts of the suspect who was at his hideout in Bolobedu policing area and they rushed to the vicinity. The suspect was positively identified and tactically approached before being placed under arrest on the spot. He is due to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court soon.
