According to IReports , the channel have distanced themselves from the fatal incident that occurred during and took the life of Emeka Clement Uzor, also known as Rugert, during an anti-drug operation in Windsor East, Johannesburg.
The incident happened during the shoot of Sizokthola with the host and ActionSA Ekurhuleni Mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo present. Police confirmed, they werenot part of the filming, but were called after the shooting. As to who fired the shot, police are still investigating.
Moja Love spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete shared with Newzroom Afrika that the broadcaster was not aware of the filming that took place on Sunday and that Sizokthola was produced by a third-party production company, which is commissioned to supply the fully packaged programme to the channel just air.
“We would like to set this on record. The Moja Love commissioned a third party. We were made aware of the incident when it happened. We then requested a report. It is correct what the MMC said the JMPD was not part of the shoot,” Cekete said.
“We have also received a report from the third party, and we and the authorities are conducting an investigation. We were aware they were shooting, but not in the Windsor area. Sizokthola is still a Moja Love show, but is shot by a third-party company outside of Moja Love.”
Cekete said for every production, whether internal or external, they stress that the need to work with law enforcement.
“Moja Love is not above the law and we would never sanction or support any activity conducted outside legal processes.”
A close affiliate revealed to Buzz Life News that Sizokthola is currently being shot by Peony Productions, owned by Xolani Khumalo’s wife, Bokani Moya – a former Moja Love employee.
“They worked on the production while she was at Moja Love. When he left following the court case, she also left the company. For Moja Love to distance themselves when their production belongs the them is cold and shifting accountability.”
