POLOKWANE – Three Police officers aged 37, 47 and 50, stationed at Modjadjiskloef, are due to appear before Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of house breaking, theft and malicious damage to property. It is reported that the three police officials were found to be involved in corrupt activities. Following incident that occurred 20 March 2024, the complainant responsible for the Modjadjiskloof police station’ storeroom, locked the storeroom and knocked off. In the same evening, at about 20:00, she received a call from one of officers who were on duty, informing her that the storeroom was opened and three Police identified were inside. She was surprised because she knew that when she left it was locked and she was in possession of the keys. On Friday, 22 March 2024, she received another call from one of the suspects who informed her that there was crisis in the storeroom but he managed to solve it and he will give her detailed information when she report on duty. On Monday, 25 March 2024, the member responsible for the storeroom together with the Station Commander inspected the storeroom. They found a small padlock using a different keys than that the store clerk was in possession, and they were unable to access the storeroom. After a short while, one of the suspects who was senior member, reported that on that day he saw the two other officials, loading the cigarettes which are the exhibits, inside the Police van and he informed them to offload those cigarettes of which they did. He then took out the small key and unlocked the storeroom. A case was opened and transferred to the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for further investigations. Investigations were conducted leading to the three police officials being charged with housebreaking with intent to steal, theft and malicious damage to property. The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest pointing out that, we cannot condone any corruption in our ranks. “If you are alleged to be involved in criminal activities you should be afforded the opportunity to have your day in Court” Concluded General Hadebe
