The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) in Mpumalanga will host separate rallies on Saturday as the party in the province continues to face leadership battles.
This follows alleged leadership changes made by the party’s provincial convener, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
The party has been divided since the removal of the provincial convener Mary Phadi. Phadi was reinstated by the Mpumalanga High Court to her roles last year.
It is alleged that Mkhwebane removed Pro Khoza, Treasure Thabede and Mike Ngobeni from their roles.
Provincial coordinator Mike Ngobeni says they informed their national leadership about their challenges in the province.
“We wanted to work in the norms and standard of the national high command, so she refused to all such proposal for us to sit down. Other instances she cited security measures but we realised that it might be a question of distance. Remember Mbombela is the provincial office and therefore we were supposed to take decision that would be binding on also to her absentia so that is where the convener got furious and said who gave us those powers to allocate positions to ourselves, we said no this are recommendations not allocations, we are recommending this so that we take to national for determination.”
Meanwhile, Mkhwebane says the appointment of the provincial detachment was a national decision by the High Command.
“On discovering that they behave as they behaved moving out also issuing letters on their own, the national organiser intervening to say they mustn’t do that then the president delegated a responsibility of stabilising Mpumalanga and appointing a full detachment. Remember I was appointed so as a convener then they had to get the seven names and a submission was prepared for the president and the president appointed those seven and each region is represented.”
