The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it does not poach members from other political parties despite the public and political sentiments about its recruitment process.
This according to the MK party Deputy President, Dr John Hlophe.
Hlophe was speaking at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban ahead of the party’s first anniversary celebrations today.
Thousands of supporters from various parts of the country are gathering at the stadium.
Hlophe says new members are attracted to the party’s policies.
“We are not in the business of stealing members from other parties, we do not poach. People get attracted to us, they like our policies, and we are not going to chase them away. Even the SG, Comrade Floyd Shivambu, he was not approached, he came to us and joined our party. We are not in the business of destroying other parties, we have nothing to benefit. But there is every reason for us to work in harmony with the other parties.
Hlophe says the party will not entertain any side shows caused by public utterances made by the Economic Freedom Fighters leadership. This after former EFF senior officials including former deputy president, Floyd Shivambu deflected to the MK Party. He says the two parties work well together in parliament.
“In parliament, we are the leader of the progressive caucus, we are working reasonably well. Outside parliament, it is unfortunate that there have been quite a few utterances by the leadership of the EFF and prominent members within the EFF. Those utterances are not constructive. We have decided to ignore them and focus on our political agenda which is to liberate the masses of the African people in this country. We are not going to entertain any side show,” adds Hlophe.
