The head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, Advocate Andrea Johnson, appeared before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee where she criticised KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s 6 July 2025 media briefing, calling it unnecessary.
That briefing drew national attention after Mkhwanazi alleged political interference, criminal infiltration within law enforcement and syndicates operating inside the state. Johnson warned that public disclosures of sensitive investigative matters risked undermining ongoing cases and future prosecutions.
