The Chief Whip of the MK Party, Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi, has been released on R30,000 bail following her appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates Court.

Her next court appearance will be on the 18th of June 2026.

Mokoena- Zondi was arrested on charges of fraud after some MK Party members opened a criminal case against her. The members claim that Mokoena-Zondi was demanding a portion of their salaries every month if they wanted to remain MPs.

Mokoena-Zondi says in her affidavit that money collected from staff (R233k) was “a voluntary contribution” meant to be “a gesture of appreciation” for upkeep of MK Party Nkandla headquarters.
