HARRISMITH – Tseseng and Harrismith Detectives jointly cracked the disappearance inquiry case of Mr Diphapang Mosia (74) of Makeneng Village in Qwaqwa, who was reported missing from his residence since 23 November 2024, wearing a green overall with gold and yellow jersey. On Monday, 25 November 2024 at about 07:30, a livestock owner was walking near Mabate Road towards the Diyatalawa gravel road looking for his cattle when he bumped into the body of an unknown man lying on the road covered with a black cloth, with the neck and hands tied with a wire. He immediately called the police. The preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly person is from Tseseng and was indeed reported as missing. The family positively identified him as their father. It is alleged that he left home with two people who asked him for a lift to somewhere, but he unfortunately never returned back with his silver car.
The Tseseng Detectives managed to follow leads, which led them to two people who were brought to the police station for interrogation. Their interview was successful and led to the two suspects being handed over to Harrismith Detectives for further handling. The two suspects, aged 18 and 35, were charged with the alleged murder and appeared before the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on 28 November 2024. The police also found personal belongings of the deceased. His vehicle is still to be traced. The two suspects are expected to appear again in the same court on 5 December 2024 for a formal bail application. The investigation still continues, and the arrest of the third suspect is imminent. “We are very proud of our highly skilled and dedicated members on the ground who ensure that perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family,” said the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane. Ends
