Media Statement from the Office of the Minister of Police PRETORIA – The Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, is deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific murder of seven family members, including three innocent children, in the Hlokozi area of Highflats, KwaZulu-Natal, on the night of 11 September 2024. Police responded swiftly to reports of gunshots, and upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of three women aged 35, 38, and 55, a 48-year-old man, and three children aged 5, 11, and 12, all lying in a pool of blood in their living room. Early indications suggest a possible link to family feuds or business-related tensions, but investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind this gruesome crime. Minister Mchunu expressed his deepest condolences, stating: “We are shocked and saddened by the murder of seven members of one family in KwaZulu-Natal. These murders were senseless, inhumane, and callous and have left an entire community reeling. We will spare no effort in bringing the culprits to justice, and we have already made headway in our investigations. I want to assure the family and the public that all resources will be mobilised to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, and the safety of the people of Highflats is restored.” The Minister further highlighted the troubling rise in violence in the area, as this tragic incident follows closely after another murder involving three victims and added that the Ministry of Police is committed to putting an end to this spate of killings and will intensify efforts to restore peace and safety in the community.
