Media Statement POLOKWANE – As South Africa observes the 16 Days of Activism campaign for No Violence against Women and Children, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo takes pride in celebrating the extraordinary efforts of Sergeant Jacob Letsatsi Mojalefa from the Burgersfort Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Sekhukhune District. His tireless commitment has led to the conviction of multiple offenders, securing two life sentences and a combined 122 years of imprisonment for perpetrators of gender-based violence and child abuse. Sergeant Mojalefa’s dedication to justice has been pivotal in securing these landmark sentences, sending a clear message to those who continue to harm women and children in the province. His recent work has resulted in the successful prosecution of six offenders involved in cases of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, including the case of a 5-year-old girl. Among his significant achievements is the conviction of Phelane Mathata Gift, a 28-year-old serial rapist, who was sentenced to 70 years imprisonment by the Polokwane High Court in October for crimes committed against women in Burgersfort between 2020 and 2021. Sergeant Mojalefa’s work is characterized by diligence, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to seeing justice served. His efforts not only bring relief to victims of these horrific crimes but also act as a powerful deterrent to potential offenders. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, and the management of SAPS salute Sergeant Mojalefa for his exemplary service. “Your work is a beacon of hope for many survivors of violence. Your dedication reflects the SAPS’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and that victims are given the support and justice they deserve.” Ends
