Media Statement POLOKWANE – Detective Sergeant Nation Teffo emerged stronger and more resilient as he overcame each hurdle and difficulty. He remarked that, to excel in the demanding detective field, one must have a strong desire to effect positive change in society and advocate for those who frequently feel voiceless. Detective Sergeant Teffo joined the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) Seshego in the year 2013 and has never looked back. He resolved to contribute positively to the Seshego FCS. His efforts were evident when he resolved challenging cases by securing four life sentences and 15 years imprisonment for various sexual offenders. The first accused, Jeffrey Thabo Ngoepe (40), charged with two counts of rape in Matlala Gloedsdam village, was sentenced to two life sentences. On Monday, 22 June 2020, the accused, who is the victim’s family friend and was staying with them, went home and discovered the victim alone. He demanded food from the victim and cursed her. He then raped her thereafter. The accused William Mokgonyana, 37, was sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of rape. In another case, Matsobane Polex Phaleng (26), the accused, was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Seshego Regional Court for an attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl in Matlala Gloedsdam Village. He is definitely an ally in the fight against the GBVF pandemic. Detective Sergeant Teffo believes in advocating for the rights of the victims. He uses his voice to promote awareness and oppose destructive attitudes and behaviours. He mentioned that his position as a police officer, particularly in the sensitive domain of investigating sexual offences, requires a genuine devotion to justice to help victims. Working with various stakeholders, such as forensic social workers, to support and collaborate on making our communities safer. This collaborative effort pushes him to perform his tasks while remaining resilient and stressed the need for teamwork in law enforcement. Detective Sergeant Nation Teffo, Limpopo Province, is blessed to have an investigator who is deeply committed to his work and continuously making a difference in the community.
