Media Statement BURGERSFORT – Detective Sergeant Mokgaetsi Predict Sema is a beacon of hope to victims and survivors of gender-based violence and femicide. Through her tireless efforts, she has brought hope and assurance to the victims of GBVF. Detective Sema maintains an optimistic outlook, focusing on the good in every situation. Detective Sergeant Sema was attached to Burgersfort Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) in 2017 and proceeded to Provincial FCS SECI (Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation Unit) in 2019. Her accolades include a Bachelor’s degree in Policing, domestic violence, Psychological motivated crime, and Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses courses. Detective Sergeant Sema aspires for greatness and strives for perfection in her profession, which is why she received the Minister’s Award at the Excellence Awards held in Midrand earlier this year. With a passion for investigation, especially on matters concerning women and children, she secured two life sentences against a serial rapist, Pitso Tshwaane Maleka, aged 31, on Wednesday, 03 July 2024. The accused was sentenced after he was convicted for raping four victims aged between 12 and 30 at different locations under the Nebo policing area between April 2012 and February 2019 In other significant cases, the accused Lucky Mashatola 33, a serial rapist terrorizing women from Mopani District in Tzaneen, was sentenced to 58 years’ imprisonment and Baloyi Amos, was sentenced to 110 years’ imprisonment for raping women in Capricorn District in Polokwane and Seshego respectively. Her commitment to delivering justice and supporting victims of GBVF is truly inspiring. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe congratulated Detective Sergeant Sema. “Your passion, expertise, and work ethic are commendable.
