Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – MEC Bentley Vass, on 22 January 2025 officially handed over the reins of the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison to the newly appointed MEC Limakatso Koloi during a brief introductory session that was held at the offices of the Department of COGHSTA in Kimberley. MEC Vass, administered and supervised both the Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs and the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison since several departments were merged by the Premier of the Northern Cape in 2024. MEC Koloi has a wealth of experience in governance, safety and infrastructure and previously held the position of Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development. She was officially sworn in on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, that was officiated by the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul. In attendance at the introductory session were the Head of Department, Mr Rodney Pieterse, the Head of Ministry, Mr Mbekushe, the Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Major General Thabo Mphuthi, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Johnny Besnaar, the District Commissioner of Frances Baard, Major General Charlotte Makgari as well as the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication and Liaison, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, Station Commander of Kimberley Brigadier Nicky Mtongana and other senior officials from the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison and COGHSTA. In her welcoming remarks, MEC Limakatso Koloi indicated that she is part of the family and she must be considered as the mother. She indicated that she will be visiting the various offices both within the Department of DTSL and the SAPS, meeting the members on the ground in the Northern Cape where she will be conducting her oversight visits. SAPS in the Northern Cape wishes her well on her new journey as the MEC for the DTSL. Ends
