MAYIBUYE BACKS MALAMULELE CITY PROJECT, SAYS DEVELOPMENT MUST CREATE JOBS

MALAMULELE: The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has thrown its weight behind the proposed Malamulele City development, describing the project as a potential catalyst for economic growth, job creation and improved opportunities for communities in Collins Chabane Municipality.

In a media statement released on Sunday, the movement congratulated the Masingita Group of Companies and its founder, Dr Mike Nkuna, following the groundbreaking sod-turning ceremony for the project.

The development is expected to bring significant retail, hospitality and entertainment facilities to the area, with the movement saying it could help strengthen commerce and tourism while opening up economic opportunities for local businesses and farmers.

According to the statement, Malamulele City is planned to include approximately 22,000 square metres of retail space, a five-star hotel, conference facilities, entertainment amenities, a new park and an upgraded Malamulele Taxi Rank.

The movement said it particularly welcomed the proposed links between local farmers and retail markets, arguing that such opportunities could help rural producers participate more meaningfully in the broader economy.

Mayibuye praised Nkuna for his contribution to rural and township development, citing several developments associated with the Masingita Group, including Jabulani Mall and Protea Glen Mall in Soweto, Masingita Mall in Giyani, Makhado Crossing and Masingita Crossing in Malamulele.

The movement said the Malamulele City project aligned with its vision of economic renewal in historically neglected communities.

However, it stressed that major investments must translate into tangible benefits for ordinary residents, including employment, skills development and opportunities for small businesses, cooperatives, informal traders and local farmers.

The party also linked the project to its political ambitions in the upcoming local government elections, saying that if it gained control of Collins Chabane Local Municipality and Vhembe District Municipality, it would prioritise reliable water and electricity supplies, road maintenance, sanitation, sewerage infrastructure, refuse collection and other essential municipal services.

It further pledged to promote transparent planning, efficient approvals, infrastructure maintenance and decisive action against corruption to support investment and local economic development.

Mayibuye called on other developers across South Africa to follow the example of the Masingita Group by investing in communities that have historically had limited access to major economic opportunities.

The movement said development should ultimately improve household livelihoods and ensure that economic growth creates meaningful opportunities for local residents.
