Two arrested for matric certificate fraud in Gauteng
Two suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the falsification of matric certificates, following a successful operation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks).
The arrests took place on Thursday, 20 March 2025, after a police officer at an internet café in Central Johannesburg noticed suspicious activity. The suspects, Dimakatso Papo (30) and Lebohang Mokgadi (24), were found altering a 2014 matric statement of results and certificate, with the intention of misrepresenting the qualification for university entry.
Authorities seized several electronic devices, including a computer and cellphone, which are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accused made their first appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 March 2025, where they were granted R500 bail each. The case has been postponed to 07 April 2025 for further investigation.
