Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The Cape Town Priority Court sentenced 47-year-old Marshall Dlamini on 28 June 2024 for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and malicious damage to property. In February 2019 the accused, Marshall Dlamini, assaulted a member of the SAPS in the foyer of the National Assembly after the State of the Nation address by the State President. The case was allocated and investigated by Detective Captain Rean Naicker attached to Western Cape Crime Detection Services. Upon completion of the investigation in May 2019 the Director of Public Prosecutions decided to prosecute the accused in the Cape Town Priority Court. Miss Marcel Malgas was appointed as the prosecutor. The lengthily trial culminated in the accused being found guilty of the mentioned charges on 12 April 2024. On Friday, 2024-06-28 the court sentenced him as follows: Count 1: Assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) – 18 Months direct imprisonment, suspended for five years. Count 2: Malicious damage to property – R6000.00 fine. He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm. Both sentences are on condition he does not commit the same or similar offence during the period of suspension. Ends
