Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police are on the hunt for armed suspects following a carjacking incident that occurred in Dzumeri village on Tuesday, 21 May 2024. The hijacked vehicle was recovered on Wednesday, 22 May 2024, near the Limpopo River in Tshamutumbu policing area, Vhembe District. Preliminary reports indicate that at about 19:30, the male driver employed at Mopani District Municipality, and two passengers, drove to the local marketplace to enjoy a meal they have bought at the nearby food outlet. They were suddenly accosted by three suspects who pointed them with firearms. The suspects robbed the victims of valuables that included cellphones, bank cards and an undisclosed amount of cash. The assailants then fled the scene with the victim’s Toyota Hilux bakkie GD6. The victims were left unharmed. Following the incident, the Police initiated a thorough investigation to track down the stolen vehicle and identify the perpetrators. Following the swift action and co-ordinated efforts of the police officers, the vehicle was located and recovered near Limpopo River and it was seized by the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for forensic evidence to assist in the ongoing investigations. A manhunt led by the specialised investigative team is underway to track down and apprehend those responsible for the carjacking. Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called on members of the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
