A KwaZulu-Natal community has been left devastated after four members of a family — including an elderly couple and a seven-year-old child — were brutally killed in their home at Esikhawini on Monday night.

According to witnesses, four armed men stormed the residence, shooting the elderly man outside before entering the house. Inside, they gunned down his bedridden partner, their young grandson, and the family’s caretaker.

A fifth person, the father of the child, managed to escape and survived the attack. Recounting the terrifying moment, he said his son had called out one of the attackers’ names before being shot.

“I ran into the dark bushes and then to a nearby house, where I found some men. I told them we were being attacked and asked them to call the police. While I was there, I could still hear gunshots. I think they wanted to wipe out everyone at home,” he said.
Shocked neighbours have been gathering at the scene since the incident, as police continue their investigation and launch a manhunt for the suspects behind the gruesome killings.
