Media Statement VILLIERS – A police sergeant is recovering in hospital after she was injured during a shooting incident. Fleeing robbers shot at a passing police vehicle during a failed ATM bombing at a garage injuring the sergeant. On 25 June 2024 at about 01:15, it is alledged that about five armed suspects entered the convenience store at a petrol garage. Three men entered the shop, one pointing a firearm at the cashier and forcing everyone to lie on the floor. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. While in the shop, another suspect was at the ATM planting explosives, but it did not explode. The suspects were wearing balaclavas and all were armed with handguns. While making their way out of the scene, a Villiers Highway patrol vehicle passed the garage and suspects fired shots at the vehicle, injuring a sergeant in the passenger seat. Backup was summoned, but the suspects had already fled. The 39-year-old sergeant was rushed to the hospital with an injury to the shoulder and is currently in a stable condition. Villiers police opened cases of business robbery, attempted murder and attempted ATM bombing. No one has been arrested yet.
