Police have intensified the search for Lucky Boitumelo Molefe, the man they believe played a critical role in the assassination of 30-year-old engineer Armand Swart — a whistleblower who was gunned down after exposing alleged tender fraud linked to Transnet.
Swart, who worked for Q Tech Engineering in Vereeniging, was shot multiple times on April 17, 2024, while sitting in his car outside his workplace. Two men, believed to have arrived in a white Hyundai i20, opened fire and fled the scene. Swart died before paramedics could arrive.
Investigations led by the SAPS Organised Crime Unit and Crime Intelligence uncovered a chilling motive: Swart had reportedly uncovered and reported corruption involving a Transnet contract — a move that may have cost him his life.
Police have already arrested four suspects, including the alleged mastermind. The men are currently in custody, awaiting trial at the Palm Ridge High Court in August 2025. But Molefe, originally from Johannesburg, has been on the run since December.
Authorities have now issued a warrant for his arrest and are urging him to surrender at the nearest police station. Members of the public with any information are asked to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Khorommbi at 063 695 8590.
As the case unfolds, Swart’s loved ones and colleagues continue to mourn the loss of a man who stood up for what was right — and paid the ultimate price.
