Media Statement GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT – Concerted efforts to curb the damage to essential infrastructure in the Garden Route District led to the arrest of a man on a charge of possession of stolen copper in Knysna. On Saturday, 25 January 2025 at about 20:25 Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team and Knysna Crime Prevention Unit members conducted patrols along Concordia Road when they spotted a suspicious Toyota Tazz. The vigilant members pulled over the vehicle and proceeded with a search. The search led to the discovery of small quantiles of copper wire and pipes. The driver, a 46-year-old man, was unable to account for his possession thereof and was arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. The origin of these items is yet to be determined and forms part of an ongoing police probe. In an unrelated matter, a 33-year-old suspect was also arrested in George after items linked to a burglary were found in his possession. George Crime Prevention Unit members swiftly responded to information on the whereabouts of the vehicle involved, operationalised the information and pounced on a house situated in Triangle Street, Parkdene where the vehicle was found. A search of the vehicle ensued during which the members found stolen items concealed in a compartment at the back of the vehicle. The search resulted in the confiscation of two laptops, a PlayStation with two remotes and several items of jewellery. Further investigation took the members to two other premises where they confiscated two tablets and jewellery. The man was arrested in connection with the items on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. Both suspects will appear in the respective courts once charged. Ends
