Media Statement NELSPRUIT – A 43-year-old Zimbabwean man was arrested for dealing in dagga by the Police in Bethal on 27 March 2024. According to information, Police received a tip-off regarding a suspect who was noticed by a concerned citizen, using a robe to offload some stuff from a cement tanker which was parked next to a certain tuckshop near Bethal. The men and women in Blue then swiftly responded accordingly and upon following the information, they found the suspect next to the cement tanker. A search was conducted and it was during this time when Police discovered compressed dagga with an estimated street value of about R100 000 inside the tanker. The suspect, identified as Timothy Rugara appeared at the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 March 2024 where he was granted R5000 bail. The case was then postponed to 17 May 2024. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspect and applauded members for their unwavering commitment in battling trafficking of dagga.
