MARQUARD – The Marquard police have arrested 29-year-old man from Moemaneng near Marquard following a case of attempted murder on another initiate who was hospitalized after he was hit with a knobkerrie in the face during what is termed training and passing on skills to new initiates by former initiates. It is alleged that on 14 December 2024, the group of former initiates visited the new initiates to impart skills on how to use a knobkerrie. During the process, the 19-year-old new initiate was hit with knobkerrie on the left side of his head and became unconscious and fell on the ground. On 20 December 2024, the Marquard police Initiation School coordinator visited the school for monitoring purposes and found out about the incident from the initiation school principal. He allegedly took the initiate to the local doctor at Senekal but was transferred to Bethlehem local hospital and later to Bloemfontein hospital in high care unit to date. His conditions is not known at this stage. A case of attempted murder is being investigated. The 29-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He is expected to appear before the Marquard Magistrate court on Monday, 23 December 2024. Ends
