Man Accused of Murdering EFF Leader Monica Dube Abandons Bail in Cullinan Court
The man accused of murdering Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Tshwane Region Two Secretary and Election Coordinator Monica Dube has abandoned his bail application, marking another significant development in a case that has sent shockwaves through the political community.
Sipho Lucky Mahlangu, 34, appeared before the Cullinan Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, where he formally withdrew his application for bail.
Mahlangu, who is from Soshanguve, faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances in connection with Dube’s fatal shooting.
According to the prosecution, the attack took place during the early hours of 13 June 2026 at Dube’s home in Wallmansthal.
Investigators allege that Mahlangu and an unidentified accomplice broke into the house through a window before making their way to Dube’s bedroom.
The pair allegedly shot Dube in the head while her children were present inside the room, leaving the family to witness the horrific attack.
Police further allege that the suspects stole Dube’s cellphone before fleeing the scene.
The investigation took a major turn on 4 July 2026 when Dube’s daughter reportedly recognised Mahlangu at a taxi rank. She immediately alerted police, leading to his arrest shortly afterwards.
The court postponed the matter to 17 September 2026 to allow investigators to continue with their inquiries.
The case continues to draw public attention as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and determine whether additional suspects were involved.
Mahlangu remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
