POLOKWANE – The Regional Court in Sekhukhune on Monday, 19 August 2024 convicted and sentenced Kemishetso Mphahlele (31) to an effective 10 years imprisonment after he stabbed to death a male victim at the tavern in Nokaneng village in May 2023. The court noted that on 06 May 2023, the accused stabbed a 36-year-old man, Velly Magakwe, with a knife on the upper body while consuming alcohol at the nearest tavern at Nokaneng village. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Sarel Letladi Kekana attached to Sekhukhune Detectives. The accused was arrested on Thursday, 11 May 2023, after handing himself and the investigating officer opposed bail until the hefty sentencing was passed on Monday, 19 August 2024. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentence and praised the investigating officer and his team for their outstanding work and professionalism.
