KOPANONG – Murder suspect arrested after he tried to kidnap a woman in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein. On 22 December 2024 at about 04:15 Kopanong Police received a distress call about a male person who was brutally killed in Freedom Square. Members swiftly responded and on arrival found the body of a male with multiple stab wounds on the body, neck and back, lying down in a pool of blood. Emergency personnel were called to the scene and declared the victim dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations were conducted and it was alleged that the 31-year-old male arrived at the house and found the couple sleeping in bed. The suspect attacked the male by stabbing the victim multiple times using a garden fork. After the stabbing, the 27-year-old female victim escaped and was found by police near her house. A manhunt was launched and the 31-year-old suspect was spotted running in Namibia Square by police. Members chased him on foot and he was arrested. The 31-year-old suspect will be charged with murder and he will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate court soon. Ends
