WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to clamp down on the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition were rewarded when police members recovered a stolen motor vehicle as well as firearms and ammunition. Police members of Maitland of Flying Squad were busy with patrols on Saturday when they responded to a complaint near Mowbray. They saw a suspicious vehicle driving on the Liesbeeck Parkway and gave chase. Their response resulted in a high speed chase during which the members forced the driver of the motor vehicle to halt. The members searched the occupants and recovered a 9mm beretta pistol with ammunition as well as an imitation firearm.
Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was reported stolen in June 2024. They detained three suspects between the ages of 23 and 30 on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of an imitation firearm.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
