Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The police members attached to Maitland Flying Squad, deployed in the city to combat crime, went beyond the call of duty on Saturday 22 February 2025, when they stopped the driver of a motor vehicle for reckless driving. When the driver of the motor vehicle became aware of the presence of the patrol vehicle, he chased off with the police members in pursuit. Police members forced the driver to halt in Bosduif Street in Athlone. The members searched the driver and the occupants and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition which resulted in the detention of three suspects aged between 21 and 30 for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge. Ends
