Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The determination of police members to rid the streets of unlicensed firearms resulted in the arrest of two males in Milnerton on Wednesday, 15 May 2024, when they were found in possession of firearms without a valid license. Police members attached to Maitland Flying Squad were busy with patrols when they responded to information about a person in possession of a firearm. The members drove in the direction of Milnerton when they saw the suspicious vehicle, and gave chase. They forced the driver to halt and searched the vehicle and the occupant. They confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition which resulted in the arrest of the driver, a 33-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Whilst busy at the crime scene, a reliable source informed them that a 34-year-old armed man was on his way to meet the suspect whom they just arrested. Reports suggested that this man was also in possession of a firearm of which he was not the lawful owner. The police members deployed themselves strategically, awaiting the arrival of the suspect. When they saw the identified vehicle, they responded and demanded the driver of the motor vehicle to halt. They searched the occupant and recovered another 9mm pistol with ammunition and arrested the man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Cape Town Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
