Mafube Local Municipality has officially confirmed a delay in the payment of employees’ salaries, citing ongoing financial challenges currently affecting the municipality.
In a memorandum dated 24 November 2025, issued by the Office of the Municipal Manager, management informed councillors, directors, managers, labour representatives and all employees that October 2025 salaries, which were scheduled to be paid on 25 November, could not be disbursed as planned.
According to the municipality, the delay is the result of persistent financial constraints that continue to impact its operations. Management acknowledged the inconvenience caused and assured staff that efforts are underway to resolve the matter.
The municipality further indicated that it is working tirelessly to ensure that outstanding salaries for both October and November 2025 are paid by 10 December 2025.
Employees have been advised to communicate with their creditors and make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the delayed payments on their financial commitments.
Management extended its sincere apologies to all affected employees, recognising the distress and hardship caused by the delay. The municipality also reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, pledging to continue engaging with all relevant stakeholders as it works to stabilise its financial position.
The memorandum was signed by Municipal Manager Ms J.B Selapyane.
