Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile welcomed the conviction and sentences Imposed on Madoda Maloyi and Giulliano Van Zyl for rape. Initial reports on the Madoda Baloyi case reveal that the accused was friends with the victim’s father and they all stayed in the same farm in the Piketberg area. On 24 December between 15:30 and 17:00, the accused lured the victim to his house where he sexually assaulted her and recorded the gruesome acts on his cellular telephone. On 27 December 2021, the victim’s elder sister informed their mother of the ordeal and reported the incident to the police. A 31-year-old man was later arrested on charges of raping the 10-year-old victim. On Monday 27 May 2024 the accused was finally found guilty of rape and was sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment. In a separate incident, during 2014 the 13-year-old girl visited her grandmother’s place where she was repeatedly raped by the suspect. In March 2022 the victim reported the incident to the police and a case was opened for further investigation. The investigating officer Ricardo Oscar McCree followed all leads at his disposal and arrested a 33-year-old man. On Thursday 30 May 2024 in the Parow Regional court, the 33-year-old Giulliano Van Zyl was found guilty of 3 counts of rape. He was sentenced to 25 years on each count. The sentences will run concurrently. Ends
