Madlanga Commission to resume on Tuesday with Fadiel Adams testimony
PRETORIA, 9 August 2026 – The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will not hold public hearings on Sunday or Monday, with proceedings expected to resume at 09:30 on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams is expected to take the witness stand when the inquiry resumes at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels previously confirmed that Adams would appear on 11 August. The scheduled testimony was reiterated by SABC News on Friday.
Adams expected to face questions over IDAC affidavit
Adams is expected to answer questions concerning a Section 27 affidavit used by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption during its investigation into senior Crime Intelligence officials.
Evidence previously presented to the Commission indicated that Adams’s affidavit named three senior police officials for investigation over alleged fraud and corruption.
However, a subsequent Section 28 document submitted to prosecutors reportedly contained eight additional names. Evidence before the Commission has linked those additions to senior IDAC investigator Dylan Perumal.
The apparent differences between the documents have become a major focus of the inquiry’s examination of how the IDAC investigation was initiated, expanded and managed.
The Commission has also heard evidence about classified or sensitive Crime Intelligence documents allegedly delivered anonymously to Adams’s parliamentary office. Adams has maintained that the documents were placed at his office without his knowledge and that he acted in the public interest by referring the information for investigation.
Former IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson and other officials have already faced extensive questioning over the handling of the affidavit and the investigation that followed.
Adams given opportunity to respond
Adams was previously served with a Rule 3 notice, which alerts a person that evidence presented before a commission may implicate or adversely affect them.
His appearance will provide him with an opportunity to respond formally to allegations and evidence already placed before the inquiry.
The Commission is investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi concerning corruption, political interference and the alleged infiltration of South Africa’s criminal justice system.
Why Adams’s testimony matters
Adams enters the witness box after weeks of evidence concerning IDAC, Crime Intelligence investigations and politically sensitive policing allegations.
His testimony could help the Commission establish how the disputed documents were obtained, why the complaint was submitted to IDAC and whether the investigation later expanded beyond the information he originally provided.
It may also clarify discrepancies between Adams’s initial affidavit and documents subsequently used to identify additional officials as potential suspects.
The allegations under examination remain untested, and the Commission has not made final findings against Adams or any of the officials implicated in the evidence.
Proceedings are expected to resume at 09:30 on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
