National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola continued his testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where explosive evidence was heard about the Political Killings Task Team, the attempted disbandment of the unit, and the controversial movement of 121 case dockets.
Masemola testified about the alleged removal of dockets from the PKTT, the role of senior SAPS officials, the dispute over whether the dockets should return to their stations of origin or remain with specialised investigators, and why he believed the task team still had critical work to do.
The testimony also touched on concerns around operational interference, the handling of politically linked murder investigations, the role of Lt-Gen Sibiya, and questions around who had authority over sensitive SAPS investigations.
According to the record, Masemola told the Commission that the 121 dockets were taken from the PKTT and that they were later found not to have been investigated while at head office.
This is one of the most important days of testimony in the Madlanga Commission as the inquiry continues probing criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
