Media Statement POLOKWANE – On Tuesday 26 March 2024, Lukekani Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 62-year-old male accused to life imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter, aged 23 in Lukekani. The court noted that, on Saturday, 20 March 2021 at about 19:45, the victim’s mother left her daughter with her partner (the accused) and her other two boys to deliver staff members to Namakgale. When she returned home, her daughter told her that her stepfather, the accused, raped her when he pretended to remove the chain, that they usually tie the victim with as they alleged she has a medical condition. The mother confronted the accused, and he denied raping the victim. The mother reported the incident to the police, and the accused was arrested the next day, Sunday 21, March 2021 at about 06:10. The case was transferred to Phalaborwa FCS Unit for further investigation, and Sergeant Julian Mathebula was assigned to investigate the case. The accused was on bail until he was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentencing handed out by the court. Ends
