LRA Celebrates Int’l Customs Day -Graduates 58 Customs Students

The (*58*) Revenue Authority (LRA) Customs Department on January 26 noticed the 71st International Customs Day that globally acknowledges customs officers and their priceless roles in facilitating worldwide commerce.

The day was celebrated underneath the Theme: “Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledge-Sharing and Professional Pride in Customs”.

International Customs day was instituted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to commemorate the day in 1953 when the inaugural session of the Customs Cooperation Council (CCC) was held in Brussels, Belgium.

This 12 months’s celebration on the LRA was mixed with the commencement of the 4th Customs Class from the (*58*) National Police Training Academy in primary police science coaching.

Fifty-eight Customs Officers have been awarded certificates after 12 weeks of intensive coaching in primary police science, customs procedures, Liberian legal guidelines, legal investigation, case submitting, courtroom processes, human rights, gender, and tactical safety abilities, amongst others.

National Security Advisor to President M. George Weah, Jefferson Kanmoh, serving as keynoter speaker of the event, highlighted the very important function the LRA performs in guaranteeing the enforcement and assortment of lawful revenues for (*58*), together with safety and common security.

He emphasised the necessity for the tax authority to make use of further technological approaches with the purpose to maximise effectivity and reduce the danger of human errors and commerce limitations.

Kanmoh urged customs practitioners to embrace the tradition of information and information-sharing, terming it as a valued crucial nationwide and worldwide partnership, inclusive of bodily interplay between customs officers and merchants.

The National Security Advisor famous that “Cooperation for border management is a shared global responsibility. The threats and opportunities arising from migration and digitization with which our collective humanity is confronted are dealt with most effectively by working together”.

Mr. Kanmoh reminded customs officers of their obligations to always facilitate respectable commerce, guarantee border safety and safety together with the promotion of high quality requirements and compliance.

LRA Commissioner General Thomas Doe Nah applauded the Customs Class 4 for the profitable completion of the intensive coaching and admonished them to be steadfast within the efficiency of their duties.

He desires them to serve with vigilance and dedication and work vigorously to make sure the actualization of income progress.

He praised the authority of the (*58*) National Police and all stakeholders for the rewarding partnership and agency assist in driving the tax authority to a optimistic new and considerable degree.

Customs Commissioner Saa Samoi referred to as on the graduates to at all times work diligently and prioritize love for nation within the discharge of their duties of enabling a hall of secure provide chain and border safety.

He assured the readiness of the LRA Customs Department in collaborating with different safety equipment to supply enough provide chain mechanism and border administration.

“As a lead agency on supply chain security, we stand ready to further strengthen our collaboration and coordination with other members of the joint security in the margins of the national border management and security strategy to which all agencies of the joint security have committed,” Commissioner Saa Samoi famous.

Previously, 153 LRA customs officers have graduated from the (*58*) National Police Training Academy for the reason that graduation of the LRA customs safety program in 2019.
