Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Limpopo TACJOC Commanders, led by Overall Commander Colonel David Malisa, Operational Commander Colonel Chuene Magwai, and Combat Commander Lieutenant Colonel Orapeleng Motecwane, hit the ground running as they supported members of the Mopani District Task Team under the leadership of Captain Catherine Sithole. The team, with support from the SAPS Airwing (Drone) and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), conducted an operation on Monday, 09 December 2024, at identified illegal mining sites, namely Makapane’s Valley and SwartKrans Mine. During the operation, five rifle cartridges and spades were discovered, indicating a high possibility of illegal mining activities in the area. Although no suspects were found on the scene, the team conducted thorough searches and the commanders ordered that operations be intensified to ensure the apprehension of suspects. These operations are part of a broader provincial effort to combat illegal mining and ensure the arrest of those involved in such activities.
