Media Statement POLOKWANE – In a significant outreach initiative, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, Sergeant Maphure Manamela, attached to the Provincial Corporate Communication, Media Centre along with Sergeant Masilo Modubi attached to SAPS Botlokwa Social Crime Prevention Unit and YCOP members, on Wednesday 13 March 2024, visited Botlokwa Community Radio studio to engage with listeners and share updates on their latest successes in combatting crime. During the radio segment, the officers highlighted several key achievements, including the reduction in violent crimes, successful drug busts, the recovery of stolen property and unlawful firearms. Sergeant Manamela further briefed the listeners about successes yielded through high density Operation Kukula as well Operation Vala Umgodi against illegal mining across the province. That, SAPS members jointly with other role players such as the SANDF and department of mineral resources and energy have made a major breakthrough in arresting several suspects and confiscated illegal mining equipment. The operation also saw a significant arrest in undocumented persons, especially at the Beitbridge Port of Entry, where items such inflatable boats used to cross into the country illegally were confiscated and destroyed. The duo also emphasized the importance of community policing and the role that public cooperation has played in these successes. Listeners were encouraged to continue their support for law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities and participating in community watch programs. The SAPS representatives took the opportunity to outline future initiatives aimed at further reducing crime rates and enhancing public safety, such as reviving community based crime prevention structures as well as strengthening partnership with traditional leaders and religious groups. The visit to the radio station is part of a broader SAPS strategy to strengthen ties with the communities they serve. By sharing their successes and challenges openly, the SAPS hopes to foster a culture of trust and collaboration with the public. In conclusion, Sergeant Modubi addressed prevalent crimes within Botlokwa policing area, which include, rape of minors, burglaries, mob justice, and murders at liquor outlets among others. Sergeant Manamela wrapped up the activity by visiting the Machaka SAPS Service Point, where she assisted in certification of documents. Ends
