Media Statement
The event was initiated by SAPS Mopani District under the leadership of District Commissioner Major General Willy Mashava alongside the Deputy District Commissioner and Provincial Women’s Network Champion, Brigadier Marry Mashila. Led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the event was a testament to SAPS’ commitment to honouring the invaluable contributions of mothers within the organisation. The Provincial Head: Pro-active Policing Brigadier Mhlongo, Station Commander of Giyani Brigadier Serakwane as well as Station Commander of Tzaneen Brigadier Masinamela, were among the senior male officers who supported the event. The presence of senior management underscored the significance of the occasion and served as a gesture of gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice of the remarkable women. The event commenced with dedication to the Almighty, through Lieutenant Colonel Maswangani, followed by a warm welcome speech by Brigadier Masinamela, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the selfless devotion of mothers within SAPS. Colonel Ngobeni introduced the distinguished guests who, among others included, Greater Letaba Municipality Speaker, Maria Mokgwathi and Chiefwhip, Rosinah Ramalatso Warrant Officer Chabalala rendered the purpose of the gathering, which was mainly to commemorate Mother’s Day. She said that the event should also serve as a learning curve, especially with regard to wellness. She outlined the five fold being, Psychological, Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, and Social. The invited speakers presented on health, finance, diet, image, and gender-based violence. The Provincial Women’s Network Champion Brigadier Mashila addressed the subject; YOU MATTER. She said being a mother is a calling and sometimes can be referred to as a ministry where your services are needed each and every day.She said since this was a ministry, we need to serve with diligence and kindness to make the world a better place. The District Commissioner Major General Mashava, before handing over to the Provincial Commissioner to deliver her keynote address, said “ We honour mothers who have lost their lives to GBV and Femicide. We stand with survivors who have faced unimaginable trauma. And we recognize the critical role that law enforcement plays in preventing and responding to these crimes. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe stressed the importance of good friendships, remaining humble, and nourishing souls. That it is important to manage ourselves and know where we belong. ” Avoid being bullies because God lifts people who are humble. Beware of the dangers associated with Hyena syndrome. The animals are too lazy to hunt and wait for others to get their prey and ambush on them. The animals can also target wounded prey, just like colleagues who want to reap the labour of others. No wonder the animals don’t make it in the big five. You need to nurture your growth and develop yourself. Dream big, aspire to greatness so you can point to the same greatness. The General further encouraged the members to be patient and avoid being frustrated when they don’t get promoted. Instead, they must stay focused on their goals knowing that no matter how long or hard it takes, they will one day reach their destination and let God navigate their lives, “ stated Lieutenant General Hadebe. “I urge you to make calculated decisions that will not compromise your families, keeping in mind that the road to success can be very difficult and challenging.” As mothers, we must nurture and protect our children as we try hard to balance family life and work. In conclusion, I express my deepest gratitude to all women within the organisation, acknowledging your exceptional service. I also thank all the Provincial and District members who supported the event. The vote of thanks was rendered by Colonel Mzimba. Ends
