Media Statement POLOKWANE – The members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo have arrested a 25-year-old man on Monday, 27 May 2024, for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in connection with the Juju Valley incident in Seshego. The suspect allegedly hit a woman with a brick during the violence that erupted during the political campaigns in the area. The suspect is expected to appear before Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 30 May 2024. The reported cases so far include a variety of offences such as attempted murder, malicious damage to property, assault GBH and contravention of Sec 87(1)(f) of Electoral Act 1998 amongst others. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the recent arrest. “We are closely monitoring the areas affected by sporadic political and community unrest to ensure that the instigators are swiftly arrested. The province is relatively calm at the moment, however, the law enforcement authorities remain on high alert and our intelligence unit is actively on the ground to ensure the safety of voters during the election period,” concluded Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
