Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Dzanani Regional Court in Vhembe District sentenced the accused, Kehuliso Mafune (33), to life imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl at Makungwi village, Vhembe District on Friday, 25 October 2024. The Court heard that on 17 September 2023, at about 01:00 in the morning, the victim was with her male friend walking in the same direction from a church conference to their respective homes when a male approached them from behind and pointed them with a firearm. They ran away, however the victim fell and the suspect dragged her to the street and raped her before fleeing the scene. The friend went back to the church and informed the security personnel about the incident. The friend managed to give out the description of the suspect to the security personnel. The incident was reported to the police. Mphepu police opened a case of rape and the docket was transferred to Makhado FCS Unit for further investigations. The docket was assigned to Warrant Officer Samuel Thovhakale of Makhado Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit. The suspect was traced and arrested on the same day. The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Thovhakale, opposed bail and the accused remained in custody until the matter was finalized by the court. The accused was found guilty, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl. The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentencing and praised the investigating officer meticulous investigative skills which culminated in the sentencing.
